One of the things that inspire me is visiting historical places. I’ve always wondered what lies in the remote corners of our planet, in distant countries and unmapped settlements that still remain a mystery for the world. But most of all I was interested in the old monuments of culture, architecture and religion. And that path led me to the sands of Jerusalem…

A journey to the East

One day I stumbled upon pictures of the Wailing Wall in the internet. Of course, I heard about it before, but those photos really caught my eye. The Wailing Wall is located in the Old City of Jerusalem. Even in the photographs you can feel the special atmosphere surrounding this place. At all times, it has been a sanctuary of Jewish people and an important destination for pilgrims from all over the world. I decided to see the Wall with my own eyes. What can I say, it was incredible. Seeing the Wall rising right in front of me, so ancient and noble, was like going back in time. My hands grope for the camera and I froze in terror – I was in such a hurry that I forgot it in the hotel! Flying across the ocean and failing to take photos of the very place I wanted to see so much! I felt so miserable! But not for long…

A sudden finding

I returned to the hotel in a terrible mood. To cheer myself up, I made a cup of strong coffee and started googling… And there it was, a picture of the Wailing Wall I was hoping to capture! Actually, it was a painting by an artist whose name I’ve never heard before – Leonid Afremov. As I learned later, Leonid Afremov runs his own website where you can find a wide choice of canvas wall art, contemporary pictures and other interesting stuff.

New themes and ideas from around the world

The quest of finding themes and ideas for new photos has always been part of my creative process. It can be just about anything: a lonely tree in the park, an abandoned old house or a busy city street. Any situation that can be interpreted in an unusual and interesting way. That’s why I’m always in search of fresh impressions. My job allows me to travel a lot. And each trip provides me with plenty of ideas. I also try keep up with the latest event in the field of art. Luckily, many well-known magazines and newspapers have their own websites that make this task a lot easier. I few days ago, I read about a duo of artists performing interesting installations http://www.nytimes.com/2015/10/25/arts/design/art-that-lets-you-walk-on-water.html?ref=arts&_r=0 Unexpected findings in the works of these people are striking in their simplicity and originality. They really call for a dialogue with the viewer! The artists travel with their installations from country to country. Sometimes they have to wait for years to realize their projects. It has always surprised me how artists see usual things and objects. After all, art involves us not only visually, but emotionally as well. This is how usual things become unusual. It’s absolutely incredible!

I’m Alan, a 25-year-old guy from Ohio. My long-time hobby is photography. In all situations, I try to capture those special moments that make life worth living. Our world is full of beauty, but most of the time we are too busy to notice the scattering of stars in the night sky or a usual flower on the side of the road. The endless wheel of job duties and house chores makes us blind to what’s really happening around. That’s why I always carry my camera with me not to miss a bit.
